Following on the heels of the Wall Street Journal op ed by 16 notable scientists last week comes a prediction from the UK’s Met Office.    It seems there’s been no warming in over a decade, and a mini-ice age may be coming.  And the culprit?  Duh duh da duh: The Sun!  Cycle 24 is thought to be responsible.  Read  more here from the Daily Mail.

The state Senate must make passage of the Voter Photo ID bill (HB 934) its top priority this new session. HB 934 requires that voters produce a valid photo ID each time a ballot is cast. This bill was passed in June 2011 by the state House of Representatives and has inexcusably been stalled for six months in the Senate.

Rep. Daryl Metcalf (R-Butler), the bill’s prime sponsor, has noted that HB 934 is modeled after Indiana’s strict photo ID law. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Indiana law in 2008 by ruling that states can require voters to produce photo IDs without violating their constitutional rights. One majority opinion stated that the (Indiana) law “is amply justified by the valid interest in protecting the integrity and reliability of the electoral process.”

Currently, 31 states require that some type of ID be presented every time a voter casts a ballot. Pennsylvania’s current law requires voters to show ID only when voting in a given polling place for the first time, but does not require ID subsequently at the same location (SB 824, Act of Dec. 9, 2002, P.L. 1246, No. 150).

Attorney General Holder’s Justice Department and a disproportionate number of Democrats oppose ID requirements, opining that those who do not possess a driver’s license, such as minorities and the elderly, could be disenfranchised. The fact that Pennsylvania voters should already possess the ID that they were required to use for first-time voting in a precinct makes this argument invalid. (It should be relatively simple to convert their required first-time ID to a proper photo ID.)

One type of voter fraud is unfortunately facilitated by the fact that it often takes years to remove deceased and relocated individuals from voter rolls. HB 934 will help maintain electoral integrity by preventing, or at the very least, minimizing, the multiple types of voter fraud that have been practiced by organized groups such as ACORN in past elections. Fraudulent votes must not be allowed to nullify legitimate ones!

It is of utmost importance that the citizens of our Commonwealth be assured that election results be fair, honest, and devoid of fraud. To that end, the state Senate must pass HB 934 without further delay in order for photo ID procedures to be implemented in the Nov. 6, 2012 presidential election – the election that many of us consider to be the most important of our lifetimes.

The list of situations in which a photo ID is required is extensive and continually expanding. Interestingly enough, the first requirement on the application for food stamp disaster relief after Hurricane Irene noted that “photo ID and proof of residency is required.”

Rep. Metcalf accurately and succinctly expressed the sentiments of those who favor the implementation of Voter Photo IDs when he said: “Currently in Pennsylvania, it is impossible to board a commercial airplane, cash a paycheck, operate a motor vehicle or even purchase a season pass to an amusement park without displaying valid photo ID. Guaranteeing the integrity of our state’s election process deserves no less than equal protection under the law.”

Your recent “Delco Movers & Shakers” article featured State Senate Majority Leader Dominic F. Pileggi. While it was an interesting personal profile, it left me wondering why the Senate Leader with all the power handed the Republicans in the 2010 election, has achieved so few legislative accomplishments to date?

For example, polls show strong support among eligible voters for a Voter ID law. Yet after an entire year, Sen. Pileggi has failed to bring this much needed, common-sense measure to a vote in the PA Senate.  After the notorious voter intimidation case in Philadelphia and other voter fraud incidents in the state, why would Sen. Pileggi assign so low a priority to this issue with a volatile election coming later this year?

Nearly half of all states have enacted Right to Work legislation, removing the stranglehold unions have on workers and employers alike.  But, under Sen. Pileggi’s “leadership”, PA is still not one of them.  Pennsylvania’s state workers and school teachers are required to join a union in order to get hired.  In addition to burdening taxpayers with public employee strikes, higher union wages and pensions, we also pay higher union costs for state and local government construction projects.

As for the School Choice issue, Sen. Pileggi supported the passage in the Senate of the very worst and most unfair version (in my opinion) of the various school choice proposals that were offered.

This is but a partial list of the pressing issues left unaddressed by the PA Senate.  The 2010 elections put Republicans in full control of state government.  Much of the blame for the lack of Republican legislative achievement must be placed on the shoulders of Sen. Dominic Pileggi, who is either too weak to be an effective Majority Leader or too beholden to unions and other special interest groups.  Either way, Sen. Pillegi’s record is dismal and does not argue in favor of his reelection for this Republican voter.

It seems Phil Jones and his colleagues at East Anglia University in the UK have been in cahoots with the Department of Energy.  Leaked emails indicate a connection. “Work on the land station data has been funded by the U.S. Dept of Energy, and I have their agreement that the data needn’t be passed on. I got this [agreement] in 2007,” Jones wrote in a May 13, 2009, email to British officials, before listing reasons he did not want them to release data.  Learn more here.

This is VERY disturbing and essentially makes it clear that the Left is using climate change as a pretense of “spreading the wealth around.”  It is unfortunate that our current administration could enable something like this to happen.  It all SOUNDS very noble, but I just don’t think so!
